  1. I will talk to him/her, if he's still interested, we have rules. If you're not coming, and not giving a day notice before cancelling, I still charge the lesson, because I don't have time to reschedule.  Unless u really need the money, if he doesn't want to learn it, then tell him you don't want to ruin ur reputation. I just told one of my students, "I love to teach you, but you also have to fulfil your responsibility to be here, and be prepared. If you still want to learn, I'm here for you. But if you don't want to practice, then you may want to talk to your parents, I don't want to waste your time, waste my time and your parents' money" (I'm usually very nice, but I don't like people wasting my time, he gave me some lame excuses for few times) The next lesson he was so PREPARED. We also change the pattern a bit too, to inspire him to learn, and figure out some problems he might had. For example, set up a schedule.  With ur students, u may want to try... just have to use different ways, and if it's really nothing u can do, then don't waste your time.

  2.   Do u mean that u r his private tutor? If I were u, I will tell him not to waste both of your time. And I am sure there are other kids that u can tutor them if u wish!
